CNN Reporter Makes Ugly Claim About Trump Following His Speech in Texas to Hurricane Victims

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump flew into Texas to meet with Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and see the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.During his trip, Trump made a quick, unscheduled speech.Speaking from a fire truck, the president said, in part:”This has been a total cooperative effort, again, we’ll see you soon and I will tell you this historic and it is epic, what happened but you know what, it happened in Texas and Texas can handle anything.Thank you all, folks thank you.”The president’s comments were short. In addition, the speech was reportedly given off the cuff.Still, Trump caught fire for his remarks on CNN.During an interview with Brianna Keilar, the news network’s chief White House correspondent, Jeff Zeleny, said:

“So Brianna, at least that clip there in earlier remarks that he made almost sounded as though he was coming to a small campaign rally of sorts. And that, of course, is not what he is here in Texas for. He has had a variety of serious meetings with the governor of Texas. He’ll be arriving here at the state emergency command center behind me just within the next […] several minutes or so.

He’s also traveling with the two Republican senators, a few members of his cabinet also on board. But Brianna, one thing I am struck by here, seeing all the stories of emotion, all the stories of loss, of devastation still unfolding.

We do not know the extent of the damage here. Very little in terms of empathy from this president. Very little in terms of emotion or talking directly to the people of Texas. He’s been talking about the businesses, talking about the response and his crowd. But certainly, this is a test, a new moment for this president.”

Zeleny doesn’t appear to consider that Trump was making an unscheduled speech. Claims of lack of empathy from the president fall short.

In August 2016, Lousiana experienced horrible flooding. Trump visited the state and donated an 18-wheeler full of supplies to the victims there.
